Abstract
The geographic distribution of a species can vary based on the availability of suitable habitats for population establishment. It has been widely assumed that the West Peruvian Dove (Zenaida meloda) is expanding its distribution range towards Southern Argentina. Here, we report the southern observation of an individual West Peruvian Dove in Tierra del Fuego province. Additionally, we analyze the records of this species in Argentina up to the year 2022, obtained from literature and the citizen science platform eBird. The progressive reports of this species to the south of La Rioja province, where it was first observed in 2007, suggest a rapid expansion of the West Peruvian Dove towards Southern Patagonia. Our results underscore the importance of citizen science projects in exploring species distribution dynamics.
