Abstract

The Grey-breasted Crake (Laterallus exilis) is a secretive member of the Rallidae, found throughout Central and South America. In Argentina, it was first recorded in 1999, with citations for the provinces of Misiones, Formosa, Corrientes and Chaco. In the present work, we add the Santa Fe province, at the southern end of the species’ distribution, with 2 records for the city of Santa Fe. Here we also provide a new citation for the Corrientes province, in the town of Esquina. These observations occur in urban areas and in the context of an extraordinary downspout of the Paraná River system, which could indicate an extension in the species distribution due to the prevailing hydric conditions, or that the species was already present in the lower middle section of the Paraná River and could not be recorded. Lastly, we remark the importance of documenting these findings and the role of digital platforms for this purpose.
