Abstract
The Mottled Owl (Ciccaba virgata) is a strigid found in southeast Brazil, east Paraguay and northeast Argentina. In Argentina, it is present in Corrientes, Chaco and Misiones. Mottled Owls can be easily observed in the northern part of Misiones; yet, its presence in the southern part of this province remains unknown. Here, we update the distribution of the Mottled Owl in southern Misiones. We also present novel information on morphological and behavioral characteristics of the study species.
