The Golden-rumped Euphonia (Chlorophonia cyanocephala) has a wide distribution in South America; however, little is known about its reproduction. To date there are no known nesting records of this species in Argentina. This study provides information on this species’ reproductive biology as well as a photographic record of a nest found in September 2022 in the city of Chajarí, Entre Ríos Province, Argentina. The nest was placed at 8.36 m up a Jacarandá (Jacaranda mimosifolia) in Urquiza Square of said city. The pair spent six days constructing the nest. Only the female incubated for a period of 13-14 days. Both members of the pair took part in feeding the nestlings, although only the female brooded them and remained in the nest. Our follow-up concluded on the eighth day of parental care, when only the male continued to be seen while the female was missing, probably having been preyed upon. Once all activity had ceased, we accessed the nest; a dead nestling was recorded having its esophagus filled with Phoradendron quadrangulare fruits. The species has been proposed as a winter migrant in Eastern Argentina; our records show that at least part of the population is resident and nests in the area.
