Abstract
In Argentina, there are two subspecies of the Fawn-breasted Tanager (Pipraeidea melanonota). P. m. venezuelensis regularly inhabits the yungas of Salta, Jujuy and Tucumán, with records as far as San Juan on the west. The nominal subspecies (P. m. melanonota) inhabits the Atlantic Forest of Misiones in northeastern Argentina, reaching southeastern Buenos Aires via the gallery forests along the Uruguay River. Here I report the first records of Fawn-breasted Tanager (nominal subspecies) for the province of Formosa and confirm the presence of the species in the Chaco region of Argentina.
