First nesting record for the Striped Owl (Asio clamator) in Salta, Argentina

Abstract

The Striped Owl (Asio clamator) is widely distributed in the neotropics. However, there is little information about its breeding biology. In Argentina, there are only few nesting reports for the species in central and northeastern Argentina, and none have been reported in the northwestern region. In April 2019, we recorded the first nest of Striped Owl in northwestern Argentina, specifically in Salta province. This is a novel contribution to the reproductive distribution of Striped Owl in Argentina. Moreover, our summer-autumnal record supports the hypothesis that suggests a flexibility in the nesting season for this species.
