Guidelines on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Nuestras Aves has established the following guidelines to moderate the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the writing of papers.
Authors
- AI tools may be used for tasks such as organizing content, improving clarity and style, or identifying gaps in the literature. They cannot replace human reasoning, critical analysis, or original intellectual contributions.
- All AI-generated output must be checked and verified by the authors for accuracy, bias, and errors.
- If AI was used, authors must include a clear statement in the manuscript describing which tool was used, for what purpose, and to what extent. This statement should appear in the methodology section or immediately before the references.
- AI cannot be listed as an author. Human authors remain fully responsible for all content.
- AI-generated or AI-modified images, figures, or artwork are not allowed unless the use of AI is part of the study’s methods (e.g., AI-assisted image analysis). In such cases, the tool, version, and process must be described in the Methods section.
Reviewers
- Manuscripts are confidential and must not be uploaded to external AI tools for any purpose.
- Reviewers must not delegate scientific evaluation to AI. All assessments must be made by the reviewer.
Editors
- Editors must treat manuscripts confidentially and may not upload them to third-party AI platforms unless explicit permission has been obtained and confidentiality is guaranteed.
- Editorial decisions cannot be delegated to AI. Editors are responsible for ensuring integrity, originality, and quality.
