Rusty-barred Owl (Strix hylophila) Strigidae distribution

The Rusty-barred Owl (Strix hylophila) is a monotypic and endemic species of the Atlantic forest. It inhabits southeast of Brazil, east and south of Paraguay, and the extreme northeast of Argentina. In Argentina it is found to the east of Formosa, north of Corrientes and Misiones; the latter, is a province where the Rusty-barred Owl resides and nests. Here we report two new records of the species located in the center (departamento Cainguás) and south (departamento Candelaria) of Misiones. Our records therefore extend the range of occurrence of the Rusty-barred Owl to the south of the province.
