Avifauna of the General Rodríguez Nature Reserve, Buenos Aires province, Argentina: first inventory and habitat use

Abstract

In this study, we present the first bird inventory of the General Rodríguez Natural Reserve, in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. This list was generated by compiling data from our own field surveys conducted between 2021 and 2026, complemented with bibliographic records and data from citizen science platforms. We recorded a total of 234 species distributed across 50 families. For each taxon, we detail the main habitat used, observation probability, seasonality, and both global and national conservation status. These records constitute a fundamental contribution to the knowledge of the provincial avifauna, providing detailed information on the spatial and temporal distribution of species, and highlighting the crucial role of the reserve as a protected area for the conservation of regional biodiversity.
