Abstract
In the southern cone of South America, the Pheasant Cuckoo (Dromococcyx phasianellus) is a species considered rare and with very few records in traditional bibliography or on online platforms. The species was mentioned for the avifauna of Argentina in the first decade of the 20th century but was documented 55 years later, in the province of Misiones, based on skins collected in the 1950s, although this material was only made known in the early 1990s. Its existence was recently confirmed in the provinces of Chaco, Formosa and Corrientes. It is a little-known species in almost all aspects of its natural history, due to its cryptic behavior and the habitat where it occurs. Vocalizations are essential to the species, and this activity would mainly take place in a short period of days between the end of winter and the first half of spring. We compile the scarce historical information in Argentina, provide 36 new localities and discuss aspects of their behavior and natural history.
