White-bellied Seedeater (Sporophila leucoptera) is a species whose main distribution is in the northeast of South America including central and eastern Brazil, the east of Paraguay and the northeast of Argentina. On November 7th 2021 a couple was seen at Faro Querandí Municipal Natural Reserve of Villa Gesell district, Buenos Aires province, being the first record for the White-bellied Seedeater for the province. This record and recent years records in the Argentinian provinces of Entre Ríos and Santa Fe, and the record in San José Department of Uruguay support the hypothesis that the species is undergoing a process of geographic expansion, extending its distribution southwards.
