About the Journal

Nuestras Aves is one of the three journals published by Aves Argentinas since 1962 and focuses on ornithological topics. It is aimed at the scientific community, birdwatchers, and naturalists. Published annually since 2008 in digital format, Nuestras Aves welcomes contributions from researchers, naturalists, birdwatchers, conservation practitioners, and citizen science contributors. Its content covers natural history, behavioral descriptions, novel records on breeding and feeding, and new or little-known geographic distributions relevant to specific regions or countries.

Nuestras Aves publishes contributions in two main sections:

  • Novel Records: reports of rare species, unusual behaviors, breeding records, or significant distributional observations.
  • Articles: more detailed contributions, including methodological studies, regional surveys, bibliographic reviews, compilations of records, and analyses relevant to ornithology and bird conservation.

Code of Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement

Nuestras Aves adheres to the COPE Best Practice Guidelines. Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to follow high standards of ethical conduct.

Editors

The Editors-in-Chief have full authority over journal content. All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process. Decisions are based on academic merit and relevance to the journal. Editors must ensure:

  • Editorial independence: Decisions are not influenced by governments, publishers, or commercial considerations.
  • Fair play: Manuscripts are evaluated without regard to personal characteristics, gender or affiliations.
  • Confidentiality: Submitted manuscripts are confidential.
  • Disclosure: Editors may not use unpublished material for their own research.
  • Conflicts of interest: Editors must recuse themselves when conflicts exist.

Reviewers

Reviewers assist the editorial decision process and help authors to improve their manuscripts. They must:

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Identify missing citations and potential overlap with other works.
  • Not use privileged information for personal gain.
  • Declare conflicts of interest and recuse themselves when necessary.

Authors

Authorship is limited to those who made significant contributions to the study and manuscript. All authors must approve the final version and agree to submission. Authors must:

  • Submit only original work, properly citing others’ contributions.
  • Participate in peer review revisions in a timely manner.
  • Disclose conflicts of interest and funding sources.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical and legal requirements for research involving animals and fieldwork.
  • Cooperate with investigations of potential misconduct.

Authors may contact the Editors-in-Chief regarding appeals, complaints, or concerns related to editorial decisions or publication ethics. The Editor-in-Chief may retract papers in cases of proven serious misconduct, including plagiarism, redundant publication or failure to fulfil any of the author’s requirements and obligations detailed above. Reviewer misconduct is also taken seriously and may be escalated institutionally.

Guidelines on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Authors

  • AI tools may be used for tasks such as organizing content, improving clarity and style, or identifying gaps in the literature. They cannot replace human reasoning, critical analysis, or original intellectual contributions.
  • All AI-generated output must be checked and verified by the authors for accuracy, bias, and errors.
  • If AI was used, authors must include a clear statement in the manuscript describing which tool was used, for what purpose, and to what extent. This statement should appear in the methodology section or immediately before the references.
  • AI cannot be listed as an author. Human authors remain fully responsible for all content.
  • AI-generated or AI-modified images, figures, or artwork are not allowed unless the use of AI is part of the study’s methods (e.g., AI-assisted image analysis). In such cases, the tool, version, and process must be described in the Methods section.

Reviewers

  • Manuscripts are confidential and must not be uploaded to external AI tools for any purpose.
  • Reviewers must not delegate scientific evaluation to AI. All assessments must be made by the reviewer.

Editors

  • Editors must treat manuscripts confidentially and may not upload them to third-party AI platforms unless explicit permission has been obtained and confidentiality is guaranteed.
  • Editorial decisions cannot be delegated to AI. Editors are responsible for ensuring integrity, originality, and quality.
