Abstract
The Aruco (Anhima cornuta) has a wide distribution in South America, ranging from Colombia to northeaster Paraguay and southeaster Brazil, with records from an isolated locality in southeaster Uruguay. The species has not been specifically mentioned or recorded for Argentina. Here, we present the first record of Aruco for Argentina based on the recording of an individual in the property commonly known as Forestal Belga SA, San Pedro department, in the northeaster Misiones province. This record is located 110 km southwest of the nearest record in the Brazilian locality of Capanema. Our record, together with another from Uruguay, would be the southernmost records of the species. Future observations of Aruco towards the south of the distribution would help to clarify if the species is in a process of expansion or if are only occasional occurrences.
