Abstract

The interaction between wild birds and urban environments is a topic of growing interest. The Burrowing Parrot (Cyanoliseus patagonus) is one of the few primary cavity-excavating parrots. It nests on cliffs and ravines in arid and semi-arid regions of Argentina and Chile. However, nesting attempts have been documented in other anthropogenic substrates and in cavities excavated on trees and palms. In this study, we report the first observation of Burrowing Parrot nestlings born in nests on a Canary Island Date Palm (Phoenix canariensis) in a city in southwestern Buenos Aires, Argentina.
