Abstract
The Black-crested Finch (Lophospingus pusillus) is a passerine (Thraupidae) endemic to South America that mainly inhabits Chaco forests, forest edges and grasslands. In Argentina it is found from the province of Salta and Jujuy, east of the Andes to west of Córdoba, north of San Luis and south and east of San Juan, with sporadic records for the province of Mendoza. Here we report a new record on the outskirts of the city of Mendoza. A male was observed, photographed and recorded, joining a Saffron Finches (Sicalis flaveola) flock. Since the Black-crested Finch is an ornamental bird, it could be an escaped or released individual.
