Abstract
The Orange-headed Tanager (Thlypopsis sordida) is a bird species of the Thraupidae family, which occurs from Venezuela to southern Brazil, frequently occupying the canopy, where it lives solitary, in pairs or in small groups. In this study I present the first record of the species for the Northwest of Rio Grande do Sul State, the southernmost in Brazil, and the second record for the state. The species was documented on January 25, on a river island in the Uruguay River, between Brazil and Argentina, in the municipality of Porto Lucena. Two individuals were observed foraging with a mixed flock composed of Coryphospingus cucullatus and Basileuterus culicivorus. This documentation is important to understand the extent of its geographical distribution and the role of river islands and riparian forests for the distribution of the species in Brazilian territory along the Uruguay River coast between the two countries.
